14 teams, a total of 52 amateurs from 18 different clubs, competed in the 2018 Ladies European Tour Pro Am at Thorpeness. The two day event was open to any combination of amateur golfers playing in teams of three captained by a different professional each day.

The professionals and men amateurs played from the white tees, a course which measures just over 6300 yards.

Trish Johnson LET legend and winner of 18 events on the ladies tour shot 71 on the first day, a new course record for the event. Trish said “Thorpeness is a good a test of golf and indeed on some holes a much tougher test than our tournament venue courses. It’s always a pleasure to play with the members and guests here, we are all made to feel so welcome”

The team event was won by three ladies from Gog Magog golf course in Cambridgeshire, Liz Bielby ( also a Jubilee member at Thorpness), Liz Wainright and Deborah Harding playing with Charlotte Thomson and Sophie Walker, their winning 2 day stableford score (best 2 scores per hole) of 175 put them three shots clear of the team from Aldeburgh, Penny Gaunt, Louise Morse and Iona McKean and four ahead of the Thorpeness Team led by club president Richard Newton.

Speaking after the prize giving Liz Bielby said “ we thoroughly enjoyed playing in the event, it was a joy to see how well the players from the LET played the course and a pleasure to play alongside them, we will be back to defend our title next year!”

Georgie Bingham, Radio 5 live presenter and golf fan played with Thorpeness General Manager Brad McLean enjoyed the company of former Solheim Cup player Becky Brewerton and Kiran Matharu, “ I had a great couple of days, this is a terrific event and the players were such fun to be around”

The event is organised by Thorpeness Head Professional and LET Founder Member Christine Langford. “I am very proud to be a founder member of the LET today’s players are a real credit to the game and deserve to have far more playing opportunities than they currently enjoy. Thanks to our members and guests for supporting the event which will certainly go ahead again next year.

Amongst the entries was a team from Jersey, Desert Springs in Spain and a host of players from Thorpeness, Aldeburgh and other Suffolk clubs.
